If you are fan of The Great British Bake Off then you may have been tempted to follow the recent progress of 15 professional teams of patisseries over 8 weeks. After a nail biting final we saw Mark Tilling and his team win hands down.
Hosted by two-Michelin-starred chef Tom Kerridge, the series brought together some of the best pastry chefs in the world to pass judgement: Benoit Blin, executive pastry chef at Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons, Cherish Finden, executive pastry chef at The Langham, London and Claire Clarke MBE, who is widely regarded as one of the finest pastry chefs in the world.
So it is with a proud fan fair that I can announce that Mark will be judging our new Chocolate class at the summer show on the 16th July at St Georges Windsor Castle.
Mark gave us a wonderful insight into chocolate at our Summer Show launch party months before we knew he was even in the bake off series. Mark follows in the footsteps of a number of celebrities who judge at the Show including master chutney maker Mridula Baljeka, TV chef Giancarlo Caldesi and gold medal Chelsea designer John Warland.
Here is the class from the schedule…
The summer Show launch party is a huge success!
We are very excited to have gathered some of the foremost horticultural, food and craft experts in the UK for your entertainment and education this February.
Mark Tilling held the title of Master Chocolatier of the UK for 5 years and will be titillating our taste buds with his chocolaty wit and wisdom.
Alex Denman was show manager of both Chelsea and Hampton Court flower shows for many years and has a wealth of anecdotes of her experiences there and hopefully some tips for you budding show competitors! Alex has just joined the Society as a Trustee!
Colin Evans is BBC Berkshire’s gardening guru and will be giving us some helpful advice on how to get our blooms ready for the show.
Will Calvert is Master Brewer at the Windsor and Eton Brewery and will be sharing his passion for beer and hopefully a glass or two of it with us.
As well as all these amazing speakers we will be unveiling this years Summer Show Schedule and you will be able to see and taste recreations of some of the winning entries from last year.
Come and join us and meet other members of your community…and have some fun at the same time.
The 18th of July 2015 marks the 110th Summer Show of the Royal Windsor Rose and Horticultural Society. We would like to invite you to help celebrate this wonderful anniversary by joining us within the private grounds of Windsor Castle for a first class family show with fun, education and competition at its heart.
Building on last year’s success, 2015 promises to be yet another unforgettable, family day out. The picturesque backdrop of the Chapter Gardens in St George’s School, Windsor Castle, is a perfect setting for this quintessentially English affair, to which, for just £4 per person (£12 for a family of four), all visitors will gain exclusive access.
Accompanied by an array of cake and English cream tea, the wonderfully traditional garden party shall play host to an unrivalled display of the best British culinary, trade and craft stalls. With gardening, bee keeping and brewing demonstrations; dancers, musicians and horse rides, birds of prey displays and Morris dancing a fun filled day is guaranteed. As you browse the plentiful stalls the kids will find a bouncy castle, petting farm, Punch and Judy productions, and face painters…enough to keep every age amused.
”Our Royal Summer Show is the premiere event of our Society’s year and this being its 110th makes it even more special. As you enter the gate to the Castles private garden you will be transported back to a more gentile age where Panama Hats and Blazers, Pimms and Scones are the order of the day. As one of the smallest Royal Shows in England we have an array of historic cups many given personally from members of the Royal Family over the last 110 years. The opportunity to win a cup and prize money is open to all and I would encourage anybody of any skill or age to enter and have a go”
With over 100 classes of competition preparations of gardeners, crafters, photographers, cooks and flower arrangers, countrywide, are sure to already be well under way. Entries can be submitted up to the 13th July by post, hand or email and the show schedule can be downloaded here. Should your skills lie elsewhere, all visitors are invited to partake in a scarecrow making contest and the Improvised Floral Class, where novices compete in a live flower arranging competition in the hope of winning £100.
If you are interested in getting access to all of the society’s events, an annual membership of the RWRHS grants free Show entry and access to the members’ enclosure. The annual cost of joining this wonderful and historic charitable Society is £10 for an individual or £18 jointly. For more details regarding the society and the classes open for entry, please see our website: www.rwrhs.com.
