After careful research of our members and entrants, the Show committee have made a number of changes.  We have added a number of new classes for more experienced competitors and more for beginners.

One of the Society’s objectives is to tempt people away from binging on box sets and transfixed by social media,  by re-discovering the pastimes that people used to do for fun.

We want to encourage  as many people to have a go at a competitive class as possible, so simply download the schedule and get planting, baking or crafting…it really is easy and loads of fun!

IMG_1982The only thing better than spending a wet and gloomy winter weekend by the fire browsing seed and plant catalogues planning my summer borders, is putting together the first edition of the Royal Windsor Summer Show schedule.

Setting out a guide for how to enter our new fuchsia classes and chatting to Judith Blacklock, NAFAS (National Association of Flower Arranging Societies) teacher and floral arranger, about themes transports me to the terrace of St George’s School in Windsor, which will be a mass of flower clubs’ stunning displays on Saturday, July 14th.

Judith and I worked together on the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. I as the Show Manager and she as an expert in her field. Together, we worked on all things floral arranging. We both enjoy the excitement of competition and the resulting high class exhibits that create such a focal point for the show, something I am delighted to say, she is kindly helping me to do at the Summer Show.

Judith is just one of the many experts I have been talking to over the winter to expand the show classes and to clarify some of the judging criteria – all with the aim of encouraging more people to enter this year.

The first edition of the schedule with all the adult classes, will be unveiled at our annual Summer Show Launch Party, being held on February 23rd, where Judith will join a fantastic line up of international speakers; Mark Tilling winner of BBC Bake off Creme de la Creme, Giancarlo and Katie Caldesi from their cookery school in Bray, and Chris Smith, nurseryman and winner of numerous RHS Chelsea Flower Show medals.

With the new range of exciting craft, arts, photography, gardening and cookery classes at this year’s show our speakers will be sharing their expert knowledge on how to win some of the show’s most coveted cups.

All are welcome to join us in Gardener’s Hall, St Leonard’s Road, Windsor (SL4 3DR). The doors open at 6.30pm and tickets will be for sale on the door at £5 each – free to anyone who joins on the night and to existing members.


If you are fan of The Great British Bake Off  then you may have been tempted to follow the recent progress of 15 professional teams of patisseries over 8 weeks.  After a nail biting final we saw Mark Tilling and his team win hands down.


Hosted by two-Michelin-starred chef Tom Kerridge, the series brought together some of the best pastry chefs in the world to pass judgement: Benoit Blin, executive pastry chef at Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons, Cherish Finden, executive pastry chef at The Langham, London and Claire Clarke MBE, who is widely regarded as one of the finest pastry chefs in the world.

So it is with a proud fan fair that I can announce that Mark will be judging our new Chocolate class at the summer show on the 16th July at St Georges Windsor Castle.


Mark gave us a wonderful insight into chocolate at our Summer Show launch party months before we knew he was even in the bake off series.  Mark follows in the footsteps of a number of celebrities who judge at the Show including master chutney maker Mridula Baljeka, TV chef Giancarlo Caldesi and gold medal Chelsea designer John Warland.

We are very excited to have gathered some of the foremost horticultural, food and craft experts in the UK for your entertainment and education this February.

Mark Tilling held the title of Master Chocolatier of the UK for 5 years and will be titillating our taste buds with his chocolaty wit and wisdom.

Alex Denman was show manager of both Chelsea and Hampton Court flower shows for many years and has a wealth of anecdotes of her experiences there and hopefully some tips for you budding show competitors!  Alex has just joined the Society as a Trustee!

Colin Evans is BBC Berkshire’s gardening guru and will be giving us some helpful advice on how to get our blooms ready for the show.

Will Calvert is Master Brewer at the Windsor and Eton Brewery and will be sharing his passion for beer and hopefully a glass or two of it with us.

As well as all these amazing speakers we will be unveiling this years Summer Show Schedule and you will be able to see and taste recreations of some of the winning entries from last year.
