2015 will be an exciting year for our society, with the celebration of our 110th annual Summer Show. Please make a note of the date which will be July 18th at St George’s School, Windsor Castle.
In preparation for this important show I would be delighted if you could join us for our annual member’s event:
‘Grow for the Show’ – 27th February, 7.00pm Gardeners Hall, Windsor, SL4 3DR
This event is free for members, £8 for non members and £5 if you present a copy of that weeks Windsor and Eton Express at the door.
I am extremely pleased to announce an amazing line up of very special guest speakers for the night:
- Martha Collison, the youngest ever contestant to star in the hit BBC One cookery series the Great British Bake Off 2014
- Harvey Stephens, Head of Savill Gardens and a life-long horticulturalist, passionate about roses
- Mridula Baljekar, award-winning cookery writer and chef who also has her own line of gourmet products, of which her Rhubarb Chutney was awarded a Double Gold Star in the Guild of Fine Food Great Taste Awards

Each of them will be sharing their passion and knowledge in their field of expertise to inspire you to take part in this years’ Summer Show.
There will be a range of cakes and treats on offer to try as well as refreshments provided by Cider Dave as well as our long term supporter, The Windsor and Eton Brewery.

Before we tempt you with what we have in store for you in this our 110th Show year, it is worthwhile taking stock of some of the notable events that took place in 2014 .
We said farewell to our President of 5 years Air Marshal Sir Ian Macfadyen KCVO CB OBE and welcomed our New President Admiral Sir James Perowne KBE. Sir James has had a long and distinguished career in the Royal Navy and if you would like to find out more about him this link will help.
We found homes for 4 of the 6 Coronation Arches and established the Coronation Legacy Fund which will endeavour to put a young deserving local person through Horticultural College every year for the next 60 years.
We organised 2 garden visits including a delightful afternoon as the guest of Mary Berry who showed us around her wonderful garden and baked us a spectacular Lemon Drizzle cake.
We organised a wonderful Grow for the Show event where we were given tips on growing roses and a demonstration on cake baking all enjoyed with a pint of real ale courtesy of the Windsor and Eton Brewery.
Our members enjoyed a private tour of the ancient part of Windsor Great Park Bear Rails by an expert woodsman from The Crown Estate and those with cameras had expert tuition from Gill Aspell on the secrets of how to take pictures of flowers and still life.
Our members enjoyed a very special private tour of Clarence House and Gardens courtesy of the Royal Household.
Our previous President Sir Ian Macfadyen hosted a wonderful summer drinks party for members at his apartments in Norman Tower in Windsor Castle and once again we were given private access to the historic and charming Moat Garden.
The Committee organised the best Summer Show in recent times with a record number of visitors and the blessing of a hot July afternoon.
and finally both the annual harvest supper and the AGM were successful events which brought together lots of like minded people from our local community to enjoy good wine and food.
